For Our Kids' grassroots-led organization model is reflected in its governance. The members of our National Council are parents who are members of the network; most of them lead or co-lead a local For Our Kids team in their community. This model was put in place in 2023 and continues to evolve. Council members meet quarterly to provide strategic direction and fiduciary oversight for the network.
Brianne Whyte
The traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haundenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, Tkaronto (Toronto).
Brianne Whyte is the team lead of For Our Kids Toronto and an elementary school teacher.
Since starting the Toronto group in 2020, Brianne has had the privilege of working with incredible people across the For Our Kids network and has seen the amazing impact of our collective hard work. Joining the Advisory Council is an important opportunity to continue to grow the For Our Kids network while deepening our impact.
Jennifer Smith
The traditional unceded territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka – Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal
As a founding member and organizer with Pour nos enfants / For Our Kids Montreal and a Mère au front, Jennifer feels that the For Our Kids network has been essential to giving eco-anxious parents a way to take climate action on their own terms, and she is pleased to join the National Council to help enable collaboration across Turtle Island. Jennifer also serves as a Trustee for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society and has previously served on the advisory board for its Quebec chapter.
Kate McMahon
The traditional unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - Burnaby.
Kate recognizes the For Our Kids network as a unique force bringing together the voices, collective power, social networks and passions of parents in support of protecting our children's futures on a livable planet. As a member of the National Advisory Council, Kate wants to help the network connect with more parents struggling to see this future for their kids and help them build knowledge, skills and confidence to advocate for healthy, equitable and thriving communities and ecosystems.
Matt Price
The unceded territory of the Cowichan Tribes and the Hul'qumi'num people - Duncan.
Matt Price holds a BA from McGill and a Masters from York. He has over 20 years experience in the non-profit sector both with NGOs and with charitable foundations. He is a published author with UBC Press on the subject of campaigns. Matt is the founder of For Our Kids.
Tarlan Razzaghi
The traditional unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - Vancouver.
Tarlan joined For Our Kids in 2019 right after her son was born, full of fear about the climate crisis. Since then, she has learned so much about climate justice from all the dedicated parents and community members across the For Our Kids Network. Tarlan is excited to take all that she has learned to help empower more parents to create a safe, healthy and equitable world for younger and future generations.
Vanessa Brown
The traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haundenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, Tkaronto (Toronto).
Vanessa joined the National Council because she wanted to continue her involvement in developing a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lens for climate action and support the growth of For Our Kids as an organization.
